configuration-zones:  compositional processes, tones, atmospheres

Carry with them rhythmic infrastructures and sensations, which flow through the actors.

The actors transmit/absorb these rhythms and sensations.  They filter and calibrate them.

Actors dynamically constrain these flows in gatherings, modulating thresholds of stability

(stabilize-disrupt; regularize)

Actors dynamically correspond these flows in gatherings, modulating resemblance & redundancy

(replication; refreshing)

Actors dynamically converge these flows in gatherings

Actors dynamically accumulate these flows in gatherings

(amplification of mass/speed)

These configuration-zones constitute a kinetic-kinaesthetic dimension of experience, between the internal and the external.  Flows are embodied in gatherings that acquire rhythm and articulation in response to forces of gravity, momentum, speed, and phrasing.

Gatherings are only human actors but sound; lighting; stage objects; video images; etc.

The agential divisions of these gatherings are not established apriori.  They are performatively enacted and maintained in situations and practices.  It is a question of how the event matters in the embodied stances and positions of its attending actors, as it is sustained in activity.  Compositional processes, forms, and atmospheres help to illuminate the priorities of a shared situation -- what matters in the situation, as it is sustained in embodied practice.

situations

//stances//  Evaluative alignments & postures taken in communicative encounters (expressive, referential, material).

They traffic between routined physical activity & larger social structures.  Arise from body type, self image, personal affinities, movement style, and aesthetic choices.  Accumulated experiences, values, tastes, desires.  Involve kinaesthetic dimension -- how movement is sensed, experienced, and perceived physically.

Manifest in a readiness or disposition:  body alignment, pace, expression, stylistic action, voice, shift of footing, poise, manner, mood, change in clothing, sound, lighting.

>>positions>>  Dynamic agential roles instantiated in communicative encounters.  Help to give directional form to experience.  Manifest in use of pronoun, name, expression, voice, and clothing change.  Indirect speech: the narrator takes on the speech of the character, or the character speaks through the voice of the narrator:  the two instances are merged.  Immediate speech:  the narrator is obliterated and the character substitutes for him.

++practices++   Composites of evaluation, action, technique, & form.  Sustain situations, catalyze guided action & situational transitions.   Emerges from the dictates of a developing structure, but is neither fully internally or externally decided. (One movement may demand the next, as jumping requires landing).  Primes the body's skills, strengths, weaknesses, in patterns and integrates them into a coordinated response system.  Limits through selective avoidances; adds through selective affiliations.

task instrumental, routine carrying out of a function.

==ritual== performative and relinquishing, involving skillful collaboration betw performer and environment.  Involves improvisational empathy, know-how, skill.

Examples of situational transitions.  From standing to walking (routine) to powerwalking to dancing (ritual).

From talking (routine) to poetic recital to singing (ritual).

Through practices, actors are maintained in continuities, cooperating & competing for influence, relevance, & intimacy;

they perpetuate their standards such that other actors come to move in accordance with their terms.
